June 19, 2025 | Gaborone, Botswana – Lendsqr, a leading Lending-as-a-Service (LaaS) committed to advancing access to credit across emerging economies, has officially launched in Botswana with the introduction of Lendsqr for Non-profit: a completely free version of its digital lending platform designed specifically for non-profit organizations and development finance institutions (DFIs).
The initiative is open to mission-driven organizations across Botswana that offer credit at below-market rates or through social finance programs, especially those working with underserved communities, smallholder businesses, and informal entrepreneurs. For many of these institutions, limited access to affordable lending technology has been a long-standing barrier to scaling impact. Lendsqr aims to change that.
“At Lendsqr, we’ve always believed that technology should make it easier, not harder, for organizations to serve their communities,” said Adedeji Olowe, CEO of Lendsqr. “If you’re a non-profit or DFI offering affordable credit to farmers, traders, or small businesses, you shouldn’t be spending a fortune just to run your loan program. That’s why we’re giving our technology away. We’ve been helped, and now we’re helping back.”
Lendsqr itself was built with the support of partners like Microsoft, Google, and AWS, who waived infrastructure costs during its early stages. Public institutions such as the Federal Government of Nigeria and organizations like OnePipe also provided grants and technical assistance that enabled the company to grow. Inspired by that generosity, Lendsqr is now extending similar support to others.
Lendsqr for Non-Profit includes everything a lender needs to run a digital credit operation. This includes borrower onboarding, loan applications, repayment tracking, credit decisioning, and portfolio management. It also works for organizations serving borrowers without internet access and includes flexible options such as guarantor-backed loans, equity contributions, and manual processing.
“This isn’t a cut-down version of our system,” Olowe explained. “It’s the same technology used by fast-growing digital lenders, now available for free to the people doing the real work in financial inclusion.”
The first organization to benefit from the program is Nigeria’s FATE Foundation, established by GTBank co-founder Fola Adeola. FATE foundation has supported thousands of small and growing businesses with training, mentorship, and access to affordable credit, often at single-digit interest rates. Lendsqr now powers their lending technology and hopes to do the same for similar institutions in Botswana.
Organizations interested in joining the program can apply through an open review process. Once approved, they receive full access to the Lendsqr platform at no cost, along with onboarding support.
